Dr. Justine Lee | 2018 Hill’s Jack Mara Scientific Achievement Award

ACVECC is pleased to announce Justine A. Lee, DVM, DACVECC, DABT as the recipient of the 2018 ACVECC Jack Mara Scientific Achievement Award for  “Toxicology.”

Dr. Lee graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (1997), completed her internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital (1998), and completed her ECC fellowship and residency at University of Pennsylvania (1999-2003). She was on faculty at University of Minnesota (2003-2008) and then the Associate Director of an animal poison control center (2008-2013). She was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters from Western University (2017).

Dr. Lee lectures throughout the world and was honored as Speaker of the Year at the North American Veterinary Conference in 2011, 2015, and 2016. Dr Lee is the founder and CEO of VETgirl, a subscription-based podcast and webinar service providing online veterinary continuing education. Dr. Lee is currently a consultant for the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, a toxicology consultant for VIN, and a Criticalist at the Animal Emergency and Referral Center of Minnesota.

Dr. Lee has been published in over 45 peer-reviewed, scientific veterinary journals and has written over 30 book chapters. She co-edited Blackwell’s Five-Minute Veterinary Consult Clinical Companion: Small Animal Toxicology (Wiley-Blackwell 2011) and was the primary editor of the Veterinary Clinics of North America Small Animal: Emergency Medicine textbook (Elsevier 2013).

Dr. Lee has mentored over 30 interns and residents. She has served ACVECC as a Regent, and on multiple ACVECC committees. Her areas of interest include decontamination of the poisoned patient, intravenous lipid emulsion, nephrotoxicants, and new treatment modalities in the poisoned patient.

The 2018 ACVECC Jack Mara Scientific Achievement Award will be presented to Dr. Lee at the 2018 International Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Symposium (IVECCS), New Orleans, LA, September 14-18, 2018.  Dr. Lee will be featured as a key lecturer in the 2019 ACVECC Postgraduate Review Course on “Toxicology in the Critically Ill Veterinary Patient” on February 15, 2019 in San Diego, CA.
